A Simple Idea That Became a Favorite
The other day I was looking through my camera roll and realized… a picnic might just be my new favorite kind of session. Think about it: you’ve got a cozy blanket, yummy snacks, people you love, and nothing to do except be present. It’s like a date, a hangout, and a photoshoot all rolled into one. And the best part? You can make it work in any season.
A Summer Picnic Session
This particular picnic was in the middle of summer. We had the sweetest treats from Chiboo Bakery; macarons, strawberries, and grapes that tasted as good as they looked.
My clients, an engaged couple, brought so much laughter to the afternoon. She wore a light, flowy dress that caught the wind just right, and he couldn’t stop smiling at her. They sat together in a quiet field, enjoying the moment, the sunshine, and (of course) the macarons.
And while this one happened to be an engagement session, the same relaxed, joyful setting works beautifully for mommy-and-me sessions, other couples, or even a solo portrait day.
Picnic sessions aren’t just photos; they’re little pauses in life where love and laughter become the story.

From Summer to Fall (and Beyond)
But here’s the thing, it’s not just a summer vibe. A few simple swaps can take a picnic from sunny July to cozy October. Imagine:
- Trading strawberries and watermelon for crisp apples and deep purple grapes
- Swapping summer florals like lilies for dried pampas grass or pumpkins
- Layering a dress with a scarf and chunky cardigan for warmth and style
And don’t even get me started on winter: plaid blankets, mugs of hot cocoa, and mini Christmas trees.
Come spring? Fresh blooms, pastel blankets, and peaches that disappear quicker than I can snap the shutter.
Why I Love Picnic Sessions
That’s why I adore picnic sessions. They’re relaxed, natural, and so easy to make your own. Whether you’re planning a couple’s date, a mommy-and-me day, or a solo portrait session, you can style it to fit your season and your personality.
